Is 2020 Football Cancelled?

At each level the game is played we are receiving different answers. Most high school across America, including here in California has taken a break from Fall Sports, and that includes Football. Teams are allowed to practice together if properly following guidelines, however there is not fall schedule this year. The possibility of Football in the spring still stands.

According to the official NFL website, football is postponed due to the circumstances of COVID-19. Coaches and players are handling the virus by getting tested for the virus multiple times per week for the foreseeable future. However, this won’t be the case forever. Currently the NFL is planning on opening their season on September 10 with the Texans against the Chiefs for Thursday Night Football.

The Big Ten and Pac 12 conferences have planned to revisit all sports again after the last calendar year, January 21, 2021. The Big Ten has taken into consideration the concerns of starting the football season back up because of the ongoing pandemic. That being said, they voted (12-2) to cancel the 2020 college football season and the Pac 12 followed not long behind.

Lastly, the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 have finally come out on whether or not they will be cancelling football season. Although a schedule has not been released yet, they have announced that they will play a 10-game conference only scheduled. However, right now we are in a wait and see with college football. As a lot of the southern schools are having to switch to distance learning after opening with live instruction in person.
