CCHS Fall Sports Preview

The beginning of school brings the beginning of fall sports. This year we opened with Titan Day honoring the fall sports teams at the annual football team scrimmage. Fall sports teams at CCHS now consist of Cross Country, Girl’s Tennis, Girl’s Volleyball, Girl’s Golf, and Football. Below we highlight each team briefly.

Girl’s Volleyball

Girl’s volleyball also practices on campus daily, but the current heat wave has had little effect on their practice schedules. They will be traveling to Bear Creek this weekend for a Saturday tournament like scrimmage. The tournament will be broke into a morning and afternoon session with seven teams in each. CCHS Girl’s will be in the afternoon session on Saturday. Chavez opens the official volleyball season at home with a foundation game against Ben Holt College Preparatory. The game starts at 7 pm on Monday, August 26. Head coach is George Conklin.

Our athletic director Mr. Goedhart would also like to let staff members know the following message:

“I would like to update staff on the grade-check policy used for athletics.  All athletes in season (right now cross country, cheer, football, girls golf, girls tennis, and girls volleyball) must a complete grade-check every Friday.  Players failing to do so will not be a to participate without the form turned in.  This was actually misinformed on the first teacher’s meeting which stated Mondays, however the actual date is Fridays.  Teachers please leave the most accurate grade as possible as these do not effect eligibility but can possibly effect playing time for players struggling.  Eligibility is determined on the previous semesters grades. Grade-checks are also used for attendance verification as players must come to school to practice and play in games.  Grade-checks are also used to monitor behavior for the coaches.   If any students are getting into trouble in class please email me and I will forward the message to the player’s.  Finally, do not let players out of your class to get their grade-check signed for a different period, it is the player responsibility to do so during their class period or on their own time.”

Grade-checks can be found attached to Mr. Goedhart’s email.
