Spider Man is returning to the MCU for at least one solo and one extra movie.

Disney and Sony announced on September 27, 2019 that they had reached a new deal to share Tom Holland’s Spider Man once again. His character is set to return to the MCU for a 3rd movie scheduled for 2021. This is reassuring news to all Marvel fans that were worried about what would happen to his character under the sole ownership of Sony.

Tom’s character quickly became a fan favorite, under the development of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. Sony and Disney announced in late August that it had failed to reach new terms for sharing the character of Spider Man, causing him to be  removed from the MCU and its future. The new deal brings the actor back for another standalone movie and one other MCU movie. Sony and Disney have set a July 16, 2021 release date for the next Spider Man movie.

Sony has also confirmed that the next stand alone movie must use the “Spider Verse” that Sony has been creating with their hit movies Venom and Into the Spider Verse, as well as future films Venom 2, Black Cat, Kraven the Hunter, Silver Sable, Morbius (2020) and Madame Web (TBD).
