The way of the Samurai

Has 2019 been secretly nominated as the year of the samurai, if so, where was my ticket? Fear not for I have uncovered their hush-hush ways, and it has unrivaled three 5 pounder blood rubies. Get both your wallet and your great grandfather´s chokutō that’s been hanging on the wall for generations, for we are going into the realm of the proclaimed samurai. Below are new games for the 2019 gaming year that all theme around the samurai.

Ghost of Tsushima

What is better than the Red Dead Redemption series? From the cliches of leather hats to mindlessly fishing and hunting bird to the securing of wanted suspects for hefty bounties. The answer,  Samurais. They make everything just that dramatic. The creators of Sly Cooper and the Infamous series went to a whole new spectrum, a crazy third-person 13-century fighter.

With the complexity of For Honor and stealth of Assassin’s Creed. Ghost of Tsushima is set in 1274 on Tsushima island, which you are the last samurai, Jin Sakai, during the first Mongol invasion into Japan. Mastering a new form of fighting stance “The way of the ghost” to defeat the Mongols and regain the freedom to Japan along with its independence.

As of now, it only out for PS4 with a release date not yet announced. “There have been thoughts to have it available for PC, but with very little chance for Xbox” stated Sucker Punch, a first-party studio owned by Sony.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Continuing down the road of the samurais and the ninjas lead us to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. As second in the Sekiro series and with all released information, it might hold steady or even surpass its past successor. With a unique take on the combat and stealth, as in not button smashing like in God of War, but instead serving the inner workings of combat, wanting you to diving into the fray, while you can be rewarded or penalized for being too aggressive.

In the game you must master the balance between those two, as you try to break his posture and your enemy is doing vise versa. But you are special, as your left arm is prosthetic. This allows the player to uphold all types of unique weapons, like in the first few moments you get an ax, delivering powerful blows and the ability to break shields. All collating into a smooth set of combos that overpower your opponents.

With a pre-order available for purchase to be set on March 22, 2019, for all systems such as PS4, Xbox, and PC.

Nioh 2

With the heavy influenced Japan appeal, hoarding over two years in time and accumulating more than 2.5 million copies sold for its previous title of Nioh, we now have the sequel, Nioh 2. Though the game is still in development and for PS4, we can reminisce over the past endeavors that the game had trekked across. A game created by “Team Ninja” which is too much of a coincidence, and published by Sony for PS4 and PC.

An action role-playing game situated in the bouts of 16th century Japan, including the breathtaking backgrounds and all veiled in a complex plot that trails you until the end of the game.

Fighting is based in the working of hacking and slashing, with sprinting, dodging, and countering to set every interaction to test you. With bosses that all have their own attributes and passives that rival any previous enemies, making you learn and relearn to keep up the pace with the ever advancing gameplay. With such an enticing premise, no acknowledgment of the release date has been published.

On the note of historical warriors, what’s your favorite Japanese sword?
