The Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D is a MARVELous show

The new TV series Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. has been a hit towards the greatest Marvel fans and many advocates that enjoy hero related films/shows. While being a recent show, not too old, it has grabbed my attention since recently Marvel related works have amazed me over the years. In fact, this show is  a  continuation of Marvel’s “Avengers”, and its sole purpose is to use non-superhero entities to fight crime or forces evil. This show leaves many seemingly amazed and anxious to see the next episode since it only airs once a week on Tuesdays on the ABC channel. Very new indeed, its first episode aired on September 24, 2013 not being old either.  Currently, Agents of SHEILD is on its second season, which began a whole year later on Sep. 23, 2014. As much as I try to be able and watch the show, when I do get the chance, I’m never disappointed. Everything about the show gives me a vision of where the Marvel Universe is heading , which gives me goose bumps.

You don’t have to be a viewer from the start to remember the cast easily, due to the small cast, it gives each character more time and space to expanded into forms the producers can think of. There is around five major characters you will most likely constantly see in each episode. Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, brought back his role from The Avengers when many fans assumed he was no more, however he reprised his role in the start of this show. Agent Melinda May, played by Ming-Na Wen,  works along side Agent Phil as a weapon’s expert and  holds intriguing fighting skills. Agent Leo Fitz, played by Iain De Caestecker,  is a weapons engineer with a serious and affecting backstory, lets just say he’s a hot head under certain circumstances. Agent Jemma Simmons, played by Elizabeth Henstridge, is sometimes a key character as she is a biochemist who specializes in human or alien life. Also, Simmons has an effect on Fitz and that is if she is away from him , Fitz begins to hallucinate. Agent Grant Ward, played by Brett Dalton, has a roller- coaster of story. For one, he was originally a black ops specialist for SHEILD , however it is revealed later in the show that he was also an Agent for Hydra. Through many twists and turns, SHEILD was able to keep and convince him that Hydra is no good. Furthermore, Ward agreed to backstab his old team in order to help SHEILD take out Hydra. All in all, all these characters work together, combining their skill and brains to live up to the SHEILD code.

As you may think, minor characters are not entertaining or have no effect on the show, however in this show that is not the case. Like mentioned earlier, this show is closely tied to the Marvel Universe, technically a huge movie broken into pieces. You may have heard of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick fury or Jaimie Alexander as Sif. These two are just he icing on the cake as there is many more characters to name however, some have very small roles that they can be considered as civilians if we had too. Although the rest of the minor characters are different in their ways, they all have the same effect on the plot for they sometimes return for extra help or for more information about a specific mission. For example, it is surprising that Jackson hardly shows up for his role , why would he ? He’s the SHEILD director! Its weird how they handle these characters , however they do manage to make them part of the story.

Although this show is tied in together with Marvel movies, it still manages to keep it simple, however if you really want to understand it you would have to watch them. For example, After the ” Avengers” Agent Phil put together a small team of SHEILD agents to handle new cases of whatever comes their way. However, if you keep watching, towards the release of ” Captain America: The Winter Soldier” they begin to end season one with a discovery of a secret organization named Hydra. Hydra’s aim was to cripple SHEILD from the inside by working for them, this is where Captain America comes in as the story unfolds there. After the movie, the second season starts with Phil trying to restore trust from the government while also dealing with “Inhumans” or villains with super powers.

The episode ” Beginning Of The End” was a marvelous way to end season one. Hydra was close of becoming successful and destroying SHEILD for good, however Nick Fury comes along to change the tides. Everything about that episode was jaw dropping and had me exciting for the next season.

No matter the mixed reviews, Agents of SHEILD has to be one of the best superhero based show out there hands down. Everyone enjoys something new, this show happens to be it.
