2020+NFL+Draft+-+A+Virtual+Experience

For the first time ever the NFL held a virtual draft. With the circumstances of the world right now because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the draft had to be done this way. The draft was originally scheduled to take place in Las Vegas to help introduce the new Las Vegas Raiders, however that all had to change. Vegas will have their draft eventually. The commissioner stated that it would be   later in the year 2022. As for the first ever virtual draft it was a huge success. The average daily audience was about 15.6 million viewers over the course of the three days.. The fact that with all sports being currently canceled or postponed, many tuned in to watch because many of us miss the sports world. People want to see their teams draft their next star player. Other people watched it for the entertainment purpose of it.

Now let’s take a look at the first 5 picks in the draft for a quick overview.

  1. The Cincinnati Bengals end up taking the Ohio native Joe Burrow 1st overall. Burrow who had one of the best seasons ever for a college quarterback, put up 5,671 passing yards, 60 touchdowns, and ended up winning the Heisman Trophy and the 2020 National Championship.
  2. The Washington Redskins would take possibly the best player in the draft in Chase Young. Young who excels at pass rusher and racked up 16.5 sacks in his last season at college will be looking to be more dominant when he steps onto the field with the other great talent on that defense.
  3. The Detroit Lions take the best corner in the draft with Jeff Okudah. After trading away their other cornerback Darius Slay, they look to take his replacement instead.
  4. The New York Giants would select the tackle Andrew Thomas to help out the offensive line. With needing help to protect their quarterback  Daniel Jones and establish a strong run game with Saquon Barkley.
  5. The Miami Dolphins would take their next quarterback in Tua Tagoviloa. Tua who is a really talented player, but with injury concerns surrounding him, made him drop down a few spots. If he doesn’t get hurt he is going to be a great player. The Dolphins are willing to take this risk and they just couldn’t let him get passed up.
