Cesar Chavez High School’s Wrestling coach, Charles Carnahan, looks back on the 2016-2017 Winter Wrestling season on March 2nd. The familiar face on Chavez campus explained this year’s team as a group of kids with a “strong bond” that spent a lot of time together, and explained what it takes to be on the Chavez Wrestling team in a brief interview.

Carnahan gives some advice to those that wish to succeed on the Titans’ wrestling team, “You just have to show up, and show some dedication.” He explains that an average practice consists of intense conditioning, a lot of cardio, and working every muscle in the human body. Wrestling is a physical contact sport that requires strong fitness to be able to pull off the many techniques that could be used in a match. To achieve this, Carnahan explained that the team worked very hard and spent long Saturdays trying to improve.

Carnahan describes the season as a whole as good, with fun times. Four Chavez students from the ‘16-’17 season qualified for CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament, a high school athletic competition.
