Upcoming AVID Field Trip

Upcoming AVID Field Trip

An AVID trip will take place on April 25th on the campuses CSU East Bay and San Jose State University. This field trip is only for sophomores and juniors who will be required to enter all necessary documents in order to attend. Students must wear appropriate clothing. For example, no red/royal blue shirts or spaghetti straps. No other items will not be necessary, though a small purse or bag is permitted. In order to be able to attend the field trip other than including necessary documents, students must be in a good standing in each of their classes, and cannot be on the no-go list.

Approximately 3 hours will be spent for each campus. San Jose State University will be a self-guided tour while the CSU East Bay will be a student led tour. In this field trip, there will be 4 teachers attending that of which include Mrs. Hughes, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Mangahas, and Mr. Jiang. Once on campus, the students will be separated into groups of 10-15 students. Afterward, the students will be exploring places on the campus such as the campuses’ libraries, lecture halls, bookstores, including many other sites. As to the transportation that will be provided, students will be taken to each campus through 2 buses. Each bus approximately costs $600, making the sum to be approximately $1,200. In order to pay for each one of these buses along with the trip, AVID funds are placed to pay for field trips like these.

The trip itself is organized by a certain date that the campuses are open to a specific amount of students. All paperwork and scheduling must be completed with the school. Students will be provided with lunch if it is requested in advance. If not, they have the alternative of bringing their own lunch or bringing money to buy at the campus. Overall, this upcoming field trip has been a collaborative effort between the AVID teachers to give students the ability to explore their future goals involving colleges. The purpose of AVID itself is to help students who have not traditionally been encouraged or have not attended colleges or universities. This field trip shows sophomores and juniors, who will be soon seniors, an opportunity to know a perspective of what college is and that it can be attainable for them with their goals set.
