Meet Ms. Lewis. Ms. Lewis has been working at Chavez for 5 years now. She teaches Ethnic Studies and AVID. Ms. Lewis attended Central Michigan University and Loyola Marymount University and Majored in English Creative Writing and found interest in studying Ethnic Studies and Black Studies. Some of her favorite things to participate in at Chavez are the BSU (black student union) program and taking them to colleges to get experience and information and she also enjoys watching some of her students play football.
When Ms. Lewis was in high school she was a student-athlete. She was on the swim team for 3 years. Swimming is one of Ms. Lewis’s many passions and she hopes she can find time to get back to it soon.
Ms. Lewis owns a small business called Mama Melting Pot. She enjoys writing in her journal and writing for fun.
The reason Ms. Lewis chose to teach Ethnic Studies is because it was a class where students can learn about themself and learn about what’s happening in the world. Ms. Lewis says her main goal as a teacher is to shape better humans.
The best piece of advice that Ms. Lewis was given was that you can be a masterpiece and a work in progress at the same time.
