If you’ve attended or worked at Cesar Chavez High School, then you know where the B building is. B100 was Health Science and Medical Terminology. It was always bustling with future medical workers going and coming hourly. This year, however, you may have noticed something different. Medical classes for students were recently canceled and B100 is now a lot less populated. Why would they cancel classes students were actually looking forward to? This is maybe the most important factor to consider when offering courses to students on a high school campus.

The high school to medical school programs are designed for mature high school students who are committed to a career in medicine, nursing, becoming a doctor, or another medical field. High school preparation will make the transitions to the more demanding coursework of college much easier for students to take.

What degree do you need to become a Health Teacher? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), you’ll probably need at least a bachelor’s degree in health education or health science to become a health science teacher. However, be careful not to negate on-the-job experiences, and don’t undersell your skills. If you do want to get formal qualifications in this field, there are medical education fellowships as well as diplomas and master’s degrees in medical education and related subjects. Most, if not all, of these, can be done alongside, or as part of your day job.

Health education programs help empower individuals and communities to live healthier lives by improving their physicals, mental, emotional, and social health by increasing knowledge and influencing their attitudes about caring for their well-being. By teaching high school students about mental health would improve their attitudes towards treatment, increase their willingness to seek help from a counselor, and boost their overall mental health literacy. In programs and classes like these, students would get the chance to get hands-on experience in medicine. Things that they often concentrate on include learning simple medical procedures, watching surgeries, shadowing doctors, working in hospitals, and interacting with others.

Most high school students only know about medicine through television shows or a trip to the doctors. Before starting a career path, think about why you want to go into the field. According to Medical School Headquarters, there are reasons why you should join the medical field. You would want to improve the lives and health of others. I believe if we have medical classes again, students would be able to enjoy it and also get ready for their future. Elevating health education to a core part of the high school curriculum would mean requiring a comprehensive program. It will help give students the discipline and knowledge necessary to do well in college.
