Cesar Chavez High School is full of many elaborate and cultural educational clubs. We host BSU, Chinese club, Filipino club, etc. Each club has made a dent in the diverse culture of our school to educate our students. The Filipino club in particular continues to bring the community together for their representation in Chavez High School.
The Filipino club continues to provide a place for Filipino students AND non-Filipino students to have fun at events and express their culture freely. Everyone is welcome in the Filipino community because they´re not focused on what your nationality is, it´s to maintain a loving and providing community in an ethnically diverse school.
To keep their status, they must maintain multiple events and go out into the community to properly advertise their club. With only 15 people, receiving the proper amount of attention each club deserves is hard. Filipino clubs connect the community with their cultural dances, such as tinkling. The Filipino club president, Elyannah Chua, says ¨The main dance they love to perform is Tinikling, a folklore dance where four people perform with two bamboo sticks. Two people are dancing while the other two are clapping with the sticks.¨
The High School Picnic (HSP) is an event where high school Filipino Clubs across the many school districts come together to compete and interact with each other. This is when Tinikling and many other dance performances come into play. The Filipino clubs put in weeks of hard work that comes with dances, games, etc., all for the community to be brought together and have an amazing time.
Chavez Filipino Club continues to fight for its spot and bring the community together.
The Filipino club currently meets Every other Thursday right after school.
