Valeria Yvonne Reyes

Valeria Yvonne Reyes was killed April 15, 2014. Sixteen-years-old and a junior at Cesar Chavez High School, Valeria was involved in a suspected drunk driving related accident. Valeria and her sister were leaving a family dinner when they got into a car with a family friend who had three beers during the dinner. The driver insisted that he was ok to drive and he was only a little buzzed. Traveling at an accelerated speed and weaving in and out of traffic, the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a fire hydrant causing the car to spin into a light pole. Valeria and her sister were rushed to a local hospital but Valeria was unable to recover from her injuries and was pronounced dead in surgery. The driver of the car is being held in police custody for suspected drunk driving following a failed sobriety test and breathalyzer reading of .10%.

Valeria was an active member of the Drama Club, M.E.Ch.A., and Circle of Friends. She had plans of graduating from high school and attending a four year college.

Valeria is survived by her parents Juan and Theresa Reyes, sister Natalie Reyes, and grandparents Bernadino and Maragarita Mendez, Rosa Haro and Juan Reyes.

A memorial service for the Valeria will be held at Cesar Chavez High School on April 22, 2014, at 1:00 p.m.
