From Hello Kitty to Lightning McQueen, many students proudly show off their backpacks around campus. Senior backpacks have been a trend for a few years and are becoming more popular, with more students participating in this new tradition for seniors.

“Coming into high school, I didn’t think everyone was going to do it, but I wanted to relive my childhood because I loved those princess backpacks, but I wanted to be a little different. I was going to get a Justin Bieber one but ended up getting a lightning McQueen one because I love that he says Kachow!”-Anjali Nonnarath(12)
“I feel like a little kid again. Makes me think, wow, it’s my last year and it’s almost all over” -Analise (12)
“It’s our last year feeling like actual kids. I don’t know why people go into high school wearing regular backpacks, the little kid ones are way cooler.” -Samantha Hernandez(12).

Wearing their favorite characters or childish designs makes seniors feel like children again. It’s their last year of school, and it lets them express themselves with other classmates for one more year.
“It’s fun and special, and it helps me connect with other seniors. After wearing it, I don’t understand why we ever stopped having cute backpacks. The trend is adorable and nostalgic for us graduating students. The backpack gives us a memory from when we were kids.” -Taleyah Vang(12)

How do other seniors who don’t wear backpacks feel?
“I find it cute and funny when I see other seniors wear it, it’s very nostalgic.” -Aruanna Gapasin(12)
“I didn’t wear a senior backpack because I didn’t want the attention of having a flashy backpack. But if I did get one it would have been Spider-Man.”-Jaden Hernandez(12)
But how do nonseniors feel when their upper-level students wear these backpacks?
“I think it’s adorable with their senior backpacks. I believe they wear it to show they’re a senior and almost finished school. When I’m a senior, I’m planning on wearing a Hello Kitty Backpack.”-Shayla Sedillo(11)
“It’s weird at first, but it’s their last year, and they’re just trying to enjoy themselves and show off their backpacks. However, it’s still cool because it’s funny to see grown kids wearing little kid backpacks. They all want to have fun, and the backpack can still carry the daily essentials you need for school.” Anson Sok(11)

“I think the backpacks are cute. They bring a smile to my face. Little things like that can influence connections and conversations with others,” said Mrs. Vaughns
“I think it is fun and exciting. It gives an individualized statement about who they are,” said Mr. Gruno.
It doesn’t matter how old or young you are, but remember that everyone once was a kid and needs to let their inner child out, whether you will wear a senior backpack or not. Remember always to express yourself and enjoy high school to the fullest.
