Rauw Alejandro dropped his fifth studio album, ‘Cosa Nuestra,’ on November 15, 2024. The album has 18 songs and a mix of salsa, reggaeton, Latin R&B, trap, merengue, electronic music, disco, bolero, afro beats, Latin pops, and many more genres.
The American artist has 10 artist features on his album, including Bad Bunny, Romeo Santos, Feid, Pharell Williams, Alexis y Fido, Laura Pausini, LATIN MAFIA, Marconi Impara & Yan Block, and Mr Nagai. The album’s first single came out on May 23, 2024, titled ‘Touching the Sky’ on July 18.
The second single was “Dejame Entrar.” The last single before the album was released was “Pasaporte,” which came out on September 26. All three singles were massive hits, as they excited fans for the album and promoted it before the end of the year.
The album was inspired by salsa and reggaeton, with a concept inspired by the 70s in New York. The title ‘Cosa Nuestra’ is a reference from Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe’s album of the year 1969, Puertorican singers with the same genre of Latin R&B and salsa.
The album combines influences from RB& and the Fania All-Stars and artists such as Pharell Williams, who is featured on the “committed” fifth song on the album. The fourth song on the album, ‘Tu Con El,’ was a cover from salsa legend Frankie Ruiz.
As this album was inspired by so many idols of Puerto Rican music, the album ‘Cosa Nuestra’ is also inspired by some aspects of his life; just last year, he and his ex-fiancé ROSALIA, the Spain Spanish singer broke it off with no context in July, they were together for three years.
On March 24, 2023, ROSALIA and Rauw Alejandro announced their engagement by releasing their EP album ‘RЯ’ featuring together with a set of three songs ‘Vampiro,’ ‘Promesa’ and ‘Beso’; those three songs represented their three years together. The song ‘Beso’ had its official music video with clips of them through the years having fun and enjoyable memories to look back at, along with the special surprise of their engagement announcement. One specific song on Rauw ‘s new album titled ‘Ni me Conozco’ is directed towards him and his ex-fiancé ROSALIA.
‘Ni me conzco’ relates to him discussing how he isn’t over her. He does all this to move on while she’s in another relationship. The song made him feel free to speak about what he was going through. Cosa Nuestra became a hit within the first three days of its release, so many related in a way.
