Top+5+horror+games+to+play+during+October

There have been many great horror games throughout the years, and there are many that stand out. It’s also October which is a perfect time to play these games. Here are the top 5 horror games to play during October.

At number 5 we have Doom 3. This game came out on August 3, 2004, and was the sixth game in the series. This game was different since it wasn’t fast-paced first-person gameplay, it was slower-paced first-person gameplay with sci-fi horror elements in it. The game takes place in 2145 on Mars, and you play as John Kane, who arrives at a research facility that tests teleporters and advanced weapons research. An outbreak occurs at the facility, and you need to blast your way through monsters and creatures to prevent them from reaching the earth. The game’s lighting is still impressive, and you need to use a flashlight because some areas of the facility are dark, and this adds a scary atmosphere to the game. You will also get jump scared and fight giant creatures during the game. This game got an 87% on Metacritic and an 8.9/10 on IGN but is underrated by the gaming community. You can play this game on mostly everything, the game is available on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

At number 4 we have F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon. F.E.A.R. came out on October 17, 2005, and was the first game in the series. This game was a first-person shooter with phycological horror in it. The game takes place in 2025 in the fictional city called Fairport, and you play as a soldier in the F.E.A.R. elite group in the US army that investigates supernatural phenomena. F.E.A.R. was called in because a military secret research program went wrong, and a powerful psychic is unleashed. You will need to fight mind-controlled soldiers and experience visions trying to slow you down. F.E.A.R. has a unique game mechanic called slow-mo which slows down time, many games didn’t have a feature like this, which makes this game different than other FPSs. This game got an 88% on Metacritic and a 9.1/10 on IGN. It’s kind of hard to get this game on a console since it was on Xbox 360 and PS3, Xbox recently made this game backward compatible with the Xbox 1 and the Xbox Series S/X, you can also play it on PC, but to play it on PlayStation you will need the PS3.

At number 3 is Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. RE7 came out on January 23, 2017, and was the 27th game released in the series, it was also a reboot for the franchise and returned to Resident Evil’s roots in horror, but now in first person. The game takes place in 2017 in Dulvey, Louisiana and you play as Ethan Winters who is looking for his wife who disappeared three years ago. She sends Ethan a letter telling him where she is, when he arrives at an abandoned plantation in Louisiana, he quickly finds out he needs to fight for his life against an infected, psychotic, family and needs to uncover the truth of what happened at this abandoned plantation to find his wife. This game looks very similar to the PT Demo (the canceled Silent Hill game) at first glance, but you will quickly see the survival horror that the series is known for. The big difference in the game is that it is in first-person instead of third-person or it’s in a fixed camera angle. The game is scarier in first person because you feel claustrophobic when walking through the halls or running away from the monsters. This game got an 86% on Metacritic and RE7 is available on everything even the Nintendo Switch through the cloud.

At number 2 is Dead Space. Dead Space came out on October 14, 2008, and was the 1st game in the series. Dead Space is a sci-fi horror, third-person shooter. The game takes place in 2508 in a mining spaceship called the USG Ishimura, you play as an engineer named Isaac Clarke who volunteers to join a crew to respond to a distress signal from the Ishimura, Isaac is also doing this to find his girlfriend who was on the ship. When you arrive on the ship you quickly find out that these aliens called Necromorphs killed the crew members of the ship, and you have to fight your way to escape the Ishimura and find out how the Necromorphs’ invasion started. Dead Space has a foggy, dark, atmosphere that keeps you on your toes, and the enemies come out of know where to jump and scare you. You also need to upgrade your weapons at a workbench to have a better chance of surviving. This game got an 86% on Metacritic and an 8.7/10 on IGN, Dead Space is available on PC and through Xbox backward compatibility, but for Playstation you have to own a PS3 to play it. The remake for this game is also coming out in January 2023, and a game called Callisto Protocol made by the people of Dead Space is coming out later this year.

And the number 1 horrific game is Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill 2 came out on September 24, 2001, and is the second game in the series, but Silent Hill 2 is considered the scariest game ever made. Silent Hill 2 is a third-person/fixed camera angle, a survival horror game that was released for the PS2 in 2001. You play as James Sunderland who travels to Silent Hill to visit his wife after receiving a letter from her, and when you arrive at the town you find out that the town is abandoned and there are monsters lurking around. You will have to fight and survive to uncover the truth about the town and find James’s wife. Silent Hill 2 is very similar to the old Resident Evil games because of the puzzles, fixed camera angles, and controls of the game. Silent Hill 2 has something that most games didn’t have, it had psychological horror, the game messes with your mind and confuses you which adds to the experience. This game got an 89% on Metacritic and a 9/10 on IGN, Silent Hill 2 originally came out on PS2 but over the years it’s been available on PC, Xbox, PS3, and Xbox 360, the game is also available through Xbox backward compatibility. A Silent Hill 2 remake just got announced but it will be a timed exclusive for the PS5, there is no release date for the remake.

This list is a recommendation for October, but I would recommend playing all of these games if you get the chance or waiting to play the remakes for some of these games.
