The Chavez girls’ tennis team made Chavez history on October 18th. For the first time ever, the Chavez girls’ tennis team reached the playoffs having a record of 6-4 and placing third in SJAA standings. To reach the playoffs, it all came down to their final match against Bear Creek. With nearly all matches completed, the last set of doubles players Jonalyn Alop and Mala Cha and the final CCHS singles player Malina Lee faced off against their Bear Creek counterparts.

In order to secure a spot in the playoffs the varsity girls netters had to overcome a 4-3 Bear Creek lead and go undefeated in their next two sets. After their triumph over Bear Creek, they headed to their SJAA tournament where they our number 1 and 3 ranked girls teamed up to dominate the SJAA doubles tournament. The girls doubles team made up of Ana Saechao and *Tarnvir Kaur teamed up and were tourney champions becoming Chavez’s first SJAA champions.

This has been the first year ever that the Girl’s Tennis team has also reached the state playoffs as well as placing first in the SJAA tournament. On October 31 the team received no treats when they lost to Gregori in the first round of the state playoffs. Chavez’s Girls tennis team will get another shot at a run through the playoffs as sectionals begin on November 3rd in Roseville.

*Editor note – The doubles team of Ana Saechao and Tarnvir Kaur was misspelled and corrected.
