With all the buzz about the latest cell phones in today’s world, better ring tones are produced as well. A ring tone is a sound made by a cellphone that let’s you know about an incoming call. You can set your mobile phone’s ring tone by choosing one that’s already programmed into the phone or purchasing a song from a music store online.
“On my iPhone, my ringtone is the sound of an escape alarm,” said Maryjo Limas, junior.
“[The ring tone] means I got a message or call and that makes me happy because it means I’m not a loner,” said Leslie Cazares, senior.
People set different ring tones to their phones so they can be set apart from others’ phones. There are typically two types of ring tones: mono-graphic and polyphonic. Monophonic ring tones are simple sounds that most phones already come with. Some examples are bells, wind chimes, beeps, etc. Polyphonic ring tones sound better than monophonic because they are more intricate in musicality.

There are also video ring tones, which are just like regular ring tones that play music, but also play a short video clip while the music is on during a call. These types of ring tones are typically found in 3G or higher cell phones.
“I change my ringtone because it gets boring having the same ringtone for so long,” said Andrea Cazares, sophomore.
“I change my ring tone everyday because I go with the slogan ‘Out with the old and in with the new’,” said Andrew Astacio, junior.
